What we heard
Thanks to everyone who shared their views on the Flinders Park multi-purpose upgrade. Most respondents supported the proposal, with 73.7 per cent in favour.
Participants told us how they use the space for sport, recreation and community activities, and what would make it work better. They highlighted the need for a flexible, well-designed area that supports a range of uses, with improved access, functionality and opportunities for broader community use.
This feedback will help guide the next stage of planning and ensure the upgrade reflects how the community wants to use Flinders Park.
About this project
What’s Happening
Council is proposing to repurpose the existing tennis court at Flinders Park, Yamba into a multi-purpose court. The proposal will change the court from a user-pays facility to a publicly accessible facility.
There are two other tennis court locations in Yamba - two courts at Yamba Oval and four courts at Ngayundi Yamba Sporting Complex.
Proposed works
Demolition of existing fencing, light posts and tennis infrastructure
Resurface of the existing court
Line marking for a multi-purpose court incorporating 2 x pickleball courts, a 3x3 basketball court & netball goal circle
Installation of in-ground basketball & netball hoops
Installation of partial fencing to road-facing court edges.
Benefits
Redevelopment of a deteriorating facility to meet modern design standards
Facility designed to meet evolving community expectations
Multi-purpose, open facility to increase community participation in sport and physical activity
Safer and more comfortable user experience
Reduced operation and maintenance costs.
