Yamba CBD Mural EOI

Clarence Valley Council is seeking Expressions of Interest (EOI) from experienced artists for the concept development, design and production of one mural located in the Yamba CBD. The mural is part of the Yamba CID Pilot Program and developed to enhance Yamba's public space, expose the community to contemporary art form and to engage our arts community in meaningful public artwork. Any eligible artist or organisation is encouraged to apply through Council’s EOI process by submitting a concept design for the site. The details for this process and site specifics are outlined below. 

The mural must be completed by Friday 23 May 2025. 

THE SITE: is highly visible to pedestrian and vehicle traffic adjacent to the Yamba Central Business District.

DIMENSIONS: The surface area of the wall and maximum size for mural is 4m - 5.5m high x 24m wide (measurements are approximate).

LOGISTICS: If your proposed design includes the whole surface area, Elevated Work Platforms will be required to access the full height of the wall. Artist must hold all licenses required to undertake this work. Submissions will need to include the cost of hire and artists will need appropriate licenses. 

BUDGET: A budget of up to $20,000.00 (excluding GST) has been allocated for the mural. All artist’s fees, materials, equipment, insurances and travel are to be covered by the budget

The fee for the mural must include all costs relating to the design and installation of the mural. This includes but is not limited to: 

  • Artist fee 
  • Materials, paints and personal protective equipment
  • All equipment required (e.g. lift hire, scaffolding, work platforms etc.)
  • Final design of proposed artwork
  • Site visits as needed
  • Installation on site
  • Risk assessment and management of site during the project (including public liability insurance certification for artist ($20 million) and/or assistants). 

FEE SCHEDULE: Payment of fees will be made in two stages:

  • 50% paid on acceptance of final design, commission of selected artist and signing of the contract
  • 50% paid on completion of the artwork and after final inspection

ARTWORK THEME: The proposed artwork should relate to the theme Yamba Birdsong: A Celebration of Yamba's Natural beauty and be an artistic interpretation of the hero statement: Yamba Bird Song represents the natural environmental beauty of Yamba and invites this narrative into the Yamba CBD through a celebration of community, creativity, and connection, bringing together residents, local businesses, and visitors in a joyful atmosphere. The statement reflects the spirit of Yamba's Natural Beauty.

CREATIVE BRIEF:

  • The artwork should relate to the theme
  • Final specifications will be provided to selected artists
  • Collaborations between artists are welcome
  • Artworks should be original designs
  • Artworks cannot be advertising and must be suitable for general audiences

EOI Submissions: submissions will be evaluated against the following criteria:

  • Artistic merit, integrity and creativity of proposal
  • Experience and expertise in previous mural projects
  • Appropriateness of design to site and theme
  • Feasibility of proposal 

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

  • Artists may be contacted to confirm previous mural experience and licenses to operate required equipment.
  • This expression of interest closes Monday 28 April 2025
  • Artists will be selected by the project steering committee, notified and supplied with the final specifications by Friday 2 May 2025
  • Artwork will need to be installed before Friday 23rd May 2025
